Bruce Sutter-HOF 2006
Congrats goes out this afternoon to former Cardinal closer Bruce Sutter, who was announced today as the only Hall of Fame inductee for the Class of 2006.Sutter, who in October was named the closer of the All-Busch Stadium Team, becomes the first pitcher never to make a major league start elected to the Hall.
The question everyone will be asking the next few days is what hat Sutter will wear-the Cubs or Cards. Sutter broke in with the Cubs, spent five years there, won his Cy Young there, and had more saves there than he did in St. Louis. Sutter spent four years with the Cardinals, totaling a half dozen fewer saves than he did with the Cubs. Sutter's lasting image though is striking out Gorman Thomas to give the Cardinals their last World Championship in 1982. Incidentally, it was the only World Series clinching win the Cards had in the history of Busch II.
