Puffins Notebook: Go Gado Go
Making a waiver claim for the first time in several weeks, the Horned Puffins used their third spot in the order to acquire RB Sam Gado. Gado, whose full name is Samkon Gado, expects to make his first career start Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Gado gets his chance as the result of injuries to Ahman Green, Najeh Davenport, and Tony Fisher. An early case of fumble-itis plagued ReShard Lee in Week 9, which opened the door for Gado.Gado was claimed by Harlan after consulting with Assistant GM Brooks Harlan. "I was really struggling with who to claim-Sam or Duce Staley, but when I asked him 'Sam or Duce, Duce or Sam?' he said 'Sam,' so it was an easy decision," said the elder Harlan.
"I'm just happy to get a chance with a division-leading team. I know how much patience he (Harlan) has with his pickups, so hopefully I'll have a productive enough day Sunday to not have to pack my bags in a week," joked Gado.
In other news...
...WR Marcus Robinson was pink-slipped to make room on the roster for Gado. "I didn't get it done, but I appreciate the opportunity," said Robinson...RB Reuben Droughns, who last week got a DUI, recently apologized to team owner Derek Harlan and later to his teammates. "He said he messed up and asked us to forgive him for his mistake and that he was sorry for putting a dark cloud over the team. He was pretty emotional and seemed genuine-the guys like him and we've accepted his apology," said reserve TE Jermaine Wiggins. Droughns is scheduled to make his first start of the year for the Puffins in Week 10...WR Donte Stallworth and K John Carney had their bye week plans scrapped by Harlan. "He called me in and said I wasn't going to N'Awlins this week. He told me he heard me and John was fittin to get crazy down there and needed to stay close to the team." Carney's take was a bit different. "He told me if I go to stay there because there'd be a new kicker when I got back. The way he cuts guys around here I figured I'd better not go anywhere," said Carney...QB Eli Manning has been pretty tight-lipped recently regarding his personal life. "I've just been working hard and doing what I can for this team," stated Manning. "I know that there've been trade rumors flying around with my name and I don't want to go anywhere, so I'm doing what I can to stay out of the doghouse...although you may want to know that I've been trying to get ahold of those two cheerleaders who got caught in the bathroom together to see if they want to come up here and stay with me for a few days."
Eli, we here at tkn2 pray you don't get traded. You make our job much easier.
