Puffins Notebook: Next up, the Benchpressers
The Horned Puffins decided not to make a claim this week (they considered both players that were claimed), but did pick up the Arizona Cardinals D Wednesday morning. Getting dropped was the disappointing Falcons D."We won't be playing the Falcons D this week or next, should we get past the Benchpressers," said GM Derek Harlan. "We have the Chargers going to Indy, so they weren't an option and Dallas is in Washington, which could turn into a shootout. We liked the Cardinals matchup with Houston this week and decided we'd take a chance."
Harlan also said he hasn't ruled out playing the Cowboys D this week, but it isn't likely.

In other news...
...the Puffins were somewhat surprised to see some "locker room material" posted on the league's website at cbssportsline yesterday. "This'll probably fire some guys up," said Harlan. "L.T.'s been struggling and a few other guys haven't been playing well, so maybe this is what we need." Harlan said his players would be off limits to reporters after yesterday (Tuesday) to avoid any "inspiring" quotes for the Pressers...this is the third straight year in which the Puffins and Pressers have faced one another in the playoffs. In '03, the Puffins won a game that ended in an 81-81 tie when tiebreaker Sebastian Janikowski outscored tiebreaker Marcel Shipp 8-0. In '04, the Puffins won 117-77. Both years the Benchpressers defeated the Puffins in the regular season (103-100 in '03 & 118-73 in '04). This year the Puffins defeated the Pressers 85-51 back in week 7. What does all of this mean? Nothing come this weekend. But it is worth noting that in '03 the Puffins entered the playoffs as the #6 seed, beat the #3 seed Mr. Quinn in the quarter-finals, the #1 seeded Benchpressers in the semis, and the #2 seeded Buffet Boys in the finals. Wes is the #6 seed this year and beat TQ last week...Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne were happy to hear Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy report that he would "play to win" the remaining games this year, despite clinching home-field advantage...the Puffins are expected to contact the Commissioner's Office sometime today or tomorrow to get a ruling on a possible move by the Puffins. The team has announced a tenative press conference for Friday morning if the league rules in their favor.
