Week 3 MVRL Predictions

I wish I had a snazzy intro here, bragging on how well I'm doing making my picks and all that jazz, but sorry, no dice. I've spent the past week trying to figure out which is worse: my picks or my team. I guess as of right now I'd have to say my team because it is at least at .500, but not for long (more on that later).
Anyway, the Rams draw a cupcake in their home opener Sunday with the Titans coming to the Ed. The Chargers will try to kill Eli Manning on Sunday Night Football. The Pats are in Pittsburgh for a showdown with the Steelers, and the Chiefs and Broncos go at it on MNF. Should be a fun weekend. On to the picks...

Horned Puffins @ Buffet Boys
I usually pick my game last, but that is just to build drama. No drama this week. In fact, I've been dreading this game since last Friday when I, for the second week in a row, picked Peyton Manning to not have a big game. I know Peyton probably doesn't read my blog, but he'll give a performance Sunday against the Brownies like I'm #1 on his (s)hitlist. I'm thinking 30+ from Manning and that is just the beginning. Do I have a chance? No. Boys 107, Puffins 81.

Crapshoot @ Hitters
I'm taking Hud here. Why? Well, for a few reasons. One, he is hot-he won his game last week and his wife won a marathon. WON. Wow. And two, Fagan's starting four (4) whiteboys. Sorry for the political incorrectness, but for Christ's sake this is the NFL! The QB and kicker are one thing, but a WR and TE too? That's too many whiteys for me to bet on. Hud 78, Fagan 73.

Burrowing Owls @ Kamikaze Maddogs
I was thinking and this is sort of like Darth Vader facing Luke Skywalker. Vader is the master (TQ is currently 2-0) and young Luke is fearless in facing his father (has there ever been a better 0-2 team?). So look for Luke to turn to pals Han Solo (Jeremy Shockey) and Lando Calrissian (Marvin Harrison) for some help this week. Although TQ does possess his fleet of fearless stormtroopers (WRs Holt, Ward, & Driver) that can inflict much harm to the enemy, I'm not a fan of evil Empires (that does include the Yankees) so I'm taking Scott. 'Kaze Dogs 105, Owls 95.

Carpetbaggers @ Double Down
My initial thought here was to pick the Double Down. But I got to thinking and here's what I came up with: Raiders/Eagles Sunday, T.O. and Moss and warming up and all the cameras are on them, and they look at each other and head off the field together. They announce that they don't feel like playing football today, so T.O. throws Randy in the passenger seat of his Navigator and they head to T.O.'s house. Randy smokes a bowl and they spend the day playing one-on-one in Owens driveway. Wouldn't that just sum up those two? The sad thing is that the networks would probably be fighting over who could televise it. Whatever. I'm actually picking Al because Culpepper has to have a big game sometime and Drew Brees will show Eli Manning that he didn't belong in San Diego anyway. Baggers 87, DD 84.

Creamers @ Benchpressers
We have Vader and Luke facing off and it's not the grudge match game of the week? That says something about this rivalry. Pietsch and Wes from 2001-2004 have been like Hulk Hogan and Paul Orndorff from 1984-1986. Seriously, they hate each other. They do. They'll never admit it, but they cannot stand each other. I'd personally like to see them both go into the steel cage and only one come out, but that's just me. Anyway, I'm picking Pietsch to win. Why? Because I swallowed my pride last week and picked Wes to win and he lost. That won't happen again. Creamers 88, Pressers 72.
By the way, if you get a chance you need to "preview" this game and stare at the pictures of Jake Plummer & Edgerrin James for 30 seconds. Let me know who's picture makes you laugh harder. Thanks.

Pietschskins @ Rampage
This just may be Troy's year. Carson Palmer is on fire, L.J. Smith might finally be having his breakout year, and T-Bone was the lucky holder of the #1 waiver spot after week 1 which gave him Willie Parker. As far as his game this week goes, I think that Thomas Jones blew his wad last week, but it shouldn't matter. Milt has some tough matchups (Damn, I almost made it through this without using that word) this week and I don't see it being enough. Troy 93, Terry 75.

Good luck and happy tailgating to all!
