Puffins Notebook: Carney comes to town

No, I'm not talking about corn dogs, funnel cakes, and the scrambler---I'm talking about former fan fave kicker John Carney. Carney was picked up by the Puffins Wednesday morning once "free" pickups opened. As Puffin fans know, Carney was a member of last year's team and is excited to be back with the club. "Yea, it's nice to be back, but I know that Harlan will cut you in a heartbeat so I'm not unpacking anything just yet," stated Carney. "At the same time, we have a couple of kickers who play their home games indoors, so he may actually keep us both around for awhile-although I don't know if I get the chance to throw a TD pass like Ryan (Longwell) did the other day."
Getting his walking papers to make room for Carney was WR Brandon Lloyd. Lloyd knew his time was coming, saying "What do you expect? My QB sucks. Coach Saunders hasn't been calling my number. I knew my days were numbered." Lloyd hopes to be picked up by another team later this week.

In other news...
...the Puffins also picked up Chargers backup RB Michael Turner. "He's looked very good the first two weeks and with us relying on LT so much it only made sense to add his backup," said Harlan. LaBrandon Toefield was cut to make room on the roster...the Puffins unsuccessfully put in a waiver claim on TE Desmond Clark of the Bears. "We liked him a lot. This is Ron Turner's second year in Chicago as O-Coordinator and if you think that they aren't going to be improved offensively you're crazy," said Harlan...RB Willis McGahee was asked about being called out by Harlan for not producing enough in the first two weeks of the season, to which he replied, "He (Harlan) thinks I'm finishing with 95 total yards on purpose. What an idiot. I gots J.P. whatever his name is as a QB and I'm facing defenses with eight in the box and he's complaining about my numbers? Gimme a break already, I'm trying to do the best I can"...and finally, we have this from QB Eli Manning-following Sunday's big come-from-behind win over the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, Manning was seen back in NYC dining with Jessica Biel. When asked, Manning replied, "We're cool. Just hanging out, having some dinner. Don't worry, I'm still trying to get that hookup with Jesscia Simpson so it's all good here." Thanks for the update, Eli.
