Puffins Notebook: RB, K Added to Roster

For the first time all year, the Puffins did not submit a waiver claim prior to Tuesday's midnight deadline. However, shortly after "free" pickups began at 7:00 a.m. this morning the Puffins picked up RB Marcel Shipp and K John Carney. "We knew we'd have to pick up a kicker at some point, but didn't want to wait any longer considering how kickers are now an excellent option at OC, what with the new scoring system and all," said GM Derek Harlan. "Then after deciding to get Jabar Gaffney, we see that the Benchpressers let Marcel Shipp go and thought he'd provide more depth for us at RB, so we grabbed him instead. Though they aren't major acquisitions, be really like both of these pickups," Harlan added.

...the Puffs sent Samie Parker and Frank Gore packing & neither were happy to be let go. "S--- man, I wasn't even around here for an entire week. They didn't give me a chance," said Gore...back to back big games from RB LaDainian Tomlinson have been nice, but Harlan has concerns about later in the season. "We love the big games, but don't use up everything now-the playoffs are where it's at."...TQ's Burrowing Owls remain the MVRL's only unblemished team at 4-0. "I don't know if anyone can beat him, but he's got a tough one this week with Hudnall," Harlan stated...Week 5's game of the week is the Creamers/Double Down...Puffins RB Willis McGahee's patience is wearing thin with J.P. Losman. "This guy sucks. I ain't trying to be all negative and s---, but my high school quarterback was better than him. I saw Jim Kelley the other day and asked him if he'd come out of retirement, but said he wouldn't. We needin some help. And quick."...Eli Manning's recent big games have thrust him into the NYC spotlight. "Yea, I've been getting calls from both the Olsen twins, Ferris Bueller's wife's friend-you know-that one freaky chick on "Sex in the City," and some chick who says she was on the Real World Las Vegas, but I don't remember her.
