Puffins Notebook: Drama at the Cove
For the third week in a row (a franchise record), the Horned Puffins did not submit a claim by the midnight deadline. But once again they made a pickup, nabbing free agent WR Az Hakim. Getting his walking papers was a less-than-thrilled Lee Evans."Man, f--- that," shouted Evans as he learned of his release. "What the f--- did you want me to do?" Once reporters made their way to Evans he was in a full-blown tirade. "I come in here to be a bye week fill in, catch a TD pass, and am rewarded by being let go? I don't understand it. He (Harlan) just wants guys in here who'll kiss his (butt) and I ain't one of 'em. So f--- him, that sorry motherf-----."
When reached for comment, Harlan downplayed the situation. "It's always tough to let someone go, especially when he's done what we've asked of him. But the reality is this-Lee was a bye week replacement and this week he's playing the Patriots. I realize that they have a banged up secondary, but given his QB situation in Buffalo, I'm not convinced he's worth starting. Az has been hot lately and we think he's a better play-it's really that simple."
Evans was quickly signed by the Double Down, where he is expected to serve as the #6 receiver, sitting behind the likes of Randy Moss, Chad Johnson, and Terrell Owens.
"At least I'll be able to get my hands on some good weed over there," said Evans.

In other news...
...Evans outburst came a day after RB Reuben Droughns expressed his displeasure about being buried on the reserves. "I think it's bulls---," said Droughns. "Like I don't deserve a start. Harlan runs his mouth about Mewelde (Moore) not getting to play for the Maddogs, but I'm in the same situation. I think I'm not getting to play cause I ain't a Cardinal fan, but I'm not. I like da Sox."...TE L.J. Smith recently got together with Allen Iverson and Jimmy Rollins to help promote sportmanship and teamwork to the youth of Philadelphia. "It was a great experience, speaking and interacting with the kids and what not. I look forward to doing more work like this," said Smith...Jimmy Smith spent his bye week in Vegas, staying at the MGM and taking in a Jimmy Buffet concert. "It was a good time-not many people know that I'm a Parrothead, but I am. I love that guy."...Sunday's comeback victory left QB Eli Manning feeling pretty good about himself. "Man, this is awesome. I love the team and this city," said Manning. "Pulling this one out should really enhance my chances of getting ahold of Jessica Alba. I've been trying to hook up with her for two weeks now and I'm getting nowhere. Tara Reid keeps calling me, but she's too easy-I like a good challenge." Hey Eli, feel free to tell it like it is!
